Project Summary: The Health of Animals Laboratory was
established by Agriculture Canada in 1948 on the campus of Mount Allison
University in Sackville, New Brunswick, and was originally a general
diagnostic laboratory serving the Atlantic area.
The Health of Animals and Plants Laboratory has relocated to
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and is housed in a new
state-of-the-art building providing research and diagnostic services for
Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada's Programs in Animal and Plant Health.
The laboratories of the Health of Animals and Plants Laboratory are
designed to biosecurity levels 1, 2, and 3. The building systems utilize
the latest engineering technology to securely operate and maintain its
large and small animal holding facilities, post mortem room,
incinerator, multipurpose greenhouse and plant growth chambers.
The building is conveniently located just inside the City of
Charlottetown, within walking distance of the Atlantic Veterinary
College, P.E.I. Food Technology Centre, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada
Research Station, and the University of Prince Edward Island.
